HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHAWN!
It was another cold day here and the ground is still white. Oh well, nothing we can do about that. We had a quiet day with physio first thing this afternoon and then a visit from Grandma's cousin Bill and his wife Edie. It was nice of them to stop by. Therapy went good again (no fire alarms) and mom and dad got a lesson for exercise for the weekend. OH, this is going to be fun, look out Jayci!!!
I took Jayci shopping last night for Shawn's birthday (thank goodness for the gift shop). She did manage to find a little something for him, a Ty Beanie Baby and he can even play on-line! The real present is coming up tomorrow with Cass and Ty. For dessert tonight we got him a piece of angel food cake from the cafeteria and it must have tasted alright as he didn't even share.
I was talking with Jace this afternoon about her halo and she said that actually it isn't the halo that really bothers her, it is more the vest part. So I asked if that meant she would miss the halo once it is gone, and in a heartbeat she says "Hell no!" Only 3.5 weeks to go!!!!!!
In case we don't get the chance to post over the weekend(that darn company you know), we want to wish everyone a great Thanksgiving, eat lots of turkey and pumpkin pie, and love the ones you are with!!!!!
Love Shawn, Starla & Jayci

I agree totally! The vest was the uncomfortable part. It began to rub right where I started to have sensation which was not just sensation, but supersensitive. A trip to RUH and no help from an arrogant intern had me disappointed but feeling simply that I'd have to return to SCH. Thankfully my dad was there and wasn't putting up with it. He "convinced" them to do something.
ReplyDeleteUsing a cutting tool they cut the corner that was bothering me off the vest. Great in theory, but the vibrations from the procedure went right up the vest, supports and the halo to my skull. Very unpleasant to say the least.
The irritation returned hours later and after some closer looking, and in a bold move by my dad & Ted, they unvelcroed the vest and tightened it up to fit properly A 54lb weight loss was the cause for the worsned fit. Problem solved!
Again, I felt the vest was the worst part also... though the cervical collar was very itchy too. I started with a beard, thinking it would be better than stubble. I was wrong and found keeping shaved was the best choice against that foam.
I'm glad you won't have that problem, Jayci. :)
Happy Thanksgiving to all the Wittmiers!!! Not to bash hospital food cause I've eaten it for the last hmmmm....27 years of my life (yikes, I'm old)but I hope someone brings you a homecooked meal.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work Jayci! I can't imagine how it must feel to wear that vest. We'll be up for the vest burning party.
It is snowing here, too! Ashley is working tonight till 9:00pm and asked if I wanted to watch a Christmas Movie with her when she gets home!!!
You really made Ashley's birthday Jayci when she got your text.
Happy Birthday Shawney!
Miss you all and praying everyday. Hope to see you soon.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Hope all is going well today and that your mom and dad didn't work you too hard Jace. Glad to hear things are going good with therapy and I bet you are anxious to get that halo off - you will still be an angel without it though. Taneil and I are excited to come up to see you again soon - not sure when though, but Taneil keeps asking. Hope you are enjoying your company this weekend and I'm sure your grandma will be cooking up a storm. Miss you and love you all!
