You know how people say they hate Mondays? Well, I like, super hate them!! Our weekend was great, but then they always are because we are at home. It's just so dang hard to leave come Monday morning. Honestly, I'm not sure how we survived before we were able to come home on weekends. I guess it did help that Cass and Tye came up here to spend their weekends but it is just so much better to be at home.

Our front door was swinging again this weekend, but there were quiet times too, which is nice also. Jayci went out to a couple hockey games and she seems to enjoy getting out of the house (as long as it is not too cold). She enjoyed time with Cass and Tye, family and her friends. It is good to see!!!! Thanks Janice for the home made bacon-cheese buns. Never had them before but they were delicious!!!

This afternoon Jayci had pool, which we all know she loves and then she had math. When asked to try moving her legs today in the pool, she saw, and her therapist felt her right one move. They have wondered before if there wasn't a flicker in her right leg, which is really strange as this is her weaker side. Whatever it is, IT IS SOMETHING!!!! Jayci is something!!!! Last weekend at home she started being able to lift her left elbow out to the side (picture a chicken wing) and hold it there. She wasn't able to do that before. And now this weekend she was able to lift her elbow out to the side, and while holding it there, she can move her forearm out and in. She is washing her own face, brushing her teeth, and feeding her self a little more (depending on what she is eating). All good stuff!!!!

Tomorrow she has bike at 9:45 and then we are off to RUH for her check up with Dr. Fourney (Neurosurgeon). We are back here for therapy at 1:00 followed by more math with Marty. Tomorrow night is American Idol and Shawn is ready. He was actually ready to watch it tonight and was quite disappointed when we told him it was THE BACHELOR night!!! He survived it though. Oh ya, and Greg stopped in tonight for a visit. He likes his new home. He said "I've met lots of people, I have a 52" TV and the food is wayyyy better". Haha!

Better get little missy off to bed now. I know morning always comes early for her. We will post again soon! God Bless!!!

Love Shawn, Starla & Jace

  1. Awesome news from the pool! We're not real surprised because we've known from the start, 'things will only get better'! Keep on keepin' on... love you all... and oh yeah - by the way... I got the first post again! Woot! ps - tell Shawn that if he keeps watching the bachelor, he'll definitely have to turn in his man card.

I can see that I'll have to start staying up later. I didn't wait quite long enough last night & for that I missed out on FIRST POST.
Jayci. Did I ever tell you about my favorite nephew that lives in Swift Surrent? Well, that was just BS. hahahaha
Keep up the work on those arms & legs. It's always nice to hear about your improvements. Feeding yourself!!!! WOW. Thats grrrreat. Now maybe you can put a little more meat on your bones. Good for you.
Starla. Monday mornings are O.K. You need them so you can start the week and get to the next weekend. As your sister said "don't sweat the small stuff". Look at the big picture and focus on it.
Hi! Shawn. Hang onto your man card.
All for now. I have to go rest up so maybe(just maybe) I can eventually get FIRST POST.
Love you all a great big bunch.

  5. Hey guys,

It's been a long time since I chimed in, but I've been reading, just not had much to say. Your muscle flickers are great news, Jayci!

Let me say that if therapists tell you that those flickers won't add much to independence you just need to get stubborn. I had a flicker in my triceps and they said not to waste time on it as it wasn't strong enough to make any significant difference.

I spent every spare minute working them. Now, even thought they are only 1/3-1/2 functional, they make the difference in my transfer speed, driving ability and hundreds of other things every single day. One tricep means being better able to push off during a transfer, pressure relieve and so many other options. A leg! Whoa! If it got strong enough you might be able to bear some weight to pivot transfer or who knows what else.

All I can say is to keep working as hard as you have been!

  8. Well, well, well - I just knew there was no "quit" in your vocab Jayci - and it seems you prove it daily! Way to go on the muscle movement in your leg. It may be a small movement today - but it will advance into great things.

Taneil didn't get over to see you this weekend. She had basketball in Moose Jaw and then had to work on Sunday. Hopefully she will get there some time soon. I know she misses you terribly when she misses a weekend - so I'm sure she will make that up in her next visit.

Take care and keep on with all those improvements!

    Love the Janzens
