Guess what.......the trach came out!!!!! It was really very simple. Jayci thought the respitory therapist was still taking off the strap when really the trach was already out. There were no problems and she feels great. I was sitting here today looking at her when she was dressed (in normal clothes) and sitting in her chair and I had a flash back to the first part of this journey, and you really can't help but realize how far Jayci has come now. WOW!!! We may still have a long way to go, but things have improved so much and now with us hopefully being able to come home on weekends, we are blessed!!!! How we ended up with these 3 amazing kids, I am not sure, but we are truly thankful!
Since Cassi doesn't have class again until Friday, Grandma Wittmier drove her up tonight and Cassi will go home sometime on Thursday. It will be good to have her here, just hope she let her boss know she wouldn't be at work!?!?!? As for Ty, well that darn school just interfers with everything. Oh well, we will see him on Friday.
If anyone is coming up in the next day or two, could you please bring Shawn some steel-toed boots. Yes, Jayci did manage to run over his foot again tonight, except this time she stopped while the chair was still on it. Some how Shawn didn't find it as funny as the rest of us.
God Bless!!!
Love Shawn, Starla, Cassi & Jayci

Hello everyone!
ReplyDeleteSounds like another amazing day for Jayci, but it is no surprise to us, she is an amazing girl. It sounds like your weekend went well, we hope you were able to sneak in a little downtime. Have a great week! God Bless.

Hi guys,
ReplyDeleteThat's all such great news! Things will really feel like they're progressing now. It was so good to look in the mirror and not see metal on my head. Wearing normal clothes again just brings back an element of normalcy.
I'm so glad your weekend home went so well. I don't think I ever felt pulled in two directions so hard as when it was time to return to rehab after Christmas in SC. I so wanted to stay home, but knew I needed to return for more progress. We joked that the halo would be easy to remove and dad had the tools to remove it if I did stay home. The day it was removed the neurosurgeon got my dad to help remove some of the lock washers on the halo pins as well as other pieces so I guess our joking wasn't too far off. :)
Keep up the great work and spirits!
Jason
Sounds like it's been a great week for all of you! Congratulations on the hardware removal! I'm glad to hear (read?) that the weekend went so well, I hope more great weekend trips are ahead. Love to all!

Good morning sleepy head didn't you tell me last night that you are up between 8:30 and 9 but apparently that wasn't the case this morning. Oh well did look in on you before I left for home and had a little visit with Dad he just got up to I think but he said oh no been up for a long time but when he was little he would be sound asleep if we went anywhere we would asked if he slept and he always said not a wink so guess things haven't changed haha Well am back at work and it was so nice to get to the hospital and there you are Jay all dressed and waiting for us. Best get to work and can't wait to see you all this week-end for the birthday parties. Tell Garry to keep it togeather and no mooning or else keep your eyes closed you to cassi. Love to all

Yes -they are all amazing kids! but is it any surprise considering who their uncle is? Really, I'm sure none of us are shocked. I won't take all the credit though... no, I'm much too humble for that.

Love you guys -
