Happy Anniversary Uncle Darren & Auntie Shantel! Have a Hopelessly Romantic Day!

Who says it's Sunny California anyways???? It's kinda weird but it has been overcast here everyday with the sun popping out a few times. I personally don't mind it but it is reeking havoc on Cassi and Jayci's tanning. From what I hear, it is hotter back home. The sun is actually out at the moment and when it is, it is hot but you never know how long it will last.

So our company went home on Tuesday. Boo hoo! It went by so fast. Oh, and my son went with them. What???? How can he be without me for 3 weeks???? Guess he thought he would be bored here but I'm not sure what is so exciting back home, especially when I am here!!!!

So, where do I start. We did so much stuff I am sure Sherry and Ash will need a vacation after their vacation. Jayci had training in the mornings so it was early rising around here and off to Project Walk we would go. Think Auntie and Ashley enjoyed seeing Jayci in action and also just to see the place and to see for themselves what we have been bragging about, was pretty cool for them. We went to a mall one day and from the outside it didn't look like much but once inside, this place was huge. We were only there about an hour to hour and a half, and to the shoppers in the bunch(Sherry and Cassi) that wasn't long enough, but to the rest, was too long(Shawn). I'm actually not much of a shopper either, unless it is an antique shop then I could spend half a day looking around. There are quite a few down in the village but haven't hit them yet this trip(oh, but I plan to).

Saturday afternoon we headed to the Outlet Mall(great, more shopping) and then we went down to the village. The farmer's market was on so we bought some fresh fruit and veges. There is also a lady that has a stand there with different sea shells and stuff and I remember her from last time. I was looking around at all her beautiful shells and she asked me if the girl in the wheelchair was my daughter. When I said yes, she handed me a hanger of shells that she had made and told me to give it to Jayci. How sweet! Jayci touches hearts wherever she goes!!!! After the farmer's market Shawn and I stopped in our favorite little shop. The man that owns it is a jeweller but his passion is gems and fossils so his little shop is full of all kinds of neat things from shark's teeth and fish fossils to gems such as amethyst, quartz, moonstone and a whole lot more. His prices are amazing and he is a very nice man that wanted to know all about Jayci and Project Walk. Can't wait to go back!! Our next stop, the Pizza Port. You probably remember this place from our last visit. The best pizza and they brew their own beer. It's a busy place but we managed to get a table and have our supper.

Sunday we went to Universal Studios. It's a great place also but the crowds, holy man, was it packed. One guy told us they had record numbers that week. Of course, we had to be right in the middle of it. We did the studio tours, the Water World show and the less then smart ones TRIED the Haunted House. Some had to turn back, some grabbed onto small children(right Cass & Ash?), and some actually made it thru. Me, of course being the only smart one in the bunch, I skipped the Haunted House and went right to the Betty Boop store. And I didn't have to change my pants after!!! We had supper there and then, what?? more shopping. The kids hit a couple stores and then finally around 10, we headed for the van. When we pulled into the drive way at midnight, it was exactly 8.5 hours until we had to load up again and head to training. We slept fast!!!

Monday we decided to hit the beach. It was another overcast day but Tye wanted to go before he headed home. No one else was crazy about going in the water so we decided we would just walk the walk and maybe get our toes wet. So, after we dropped Cassi and Auntie off at the mall(whatever!), the rest of us headed for the water. Jayci and Shawn just hung out on the sidewalk as Jayci can't wheel in the sand, and it was toooo cold for her anyways, and Ash, Tye and me went to get our toes wet. By the time we were done, Tye was completely soaked and Ash and I were half way wet. Waves are bigger than you think. We even found some sea shells. Don't tell anyone. Apparently, so Shawn tells us, it is against the law to take stuff from the ocean. I can't figure that out because they have shells in the stores and at the farmer's market so if no one is taking them from the ocean, where do they get them from???? Do they grow on trees too, and if they did, would it be illegal to pick them from the trees??? Whatever!!! We found our very own seashells. How cool is that?!?!?! Tye was in the water like a dirty shirt, plucking the shells from the sand. I want to go back but not sure who will go in the water as my shell hunter has left me!!

Jayci had the day off on Tuesday so everyone got to sleep in a little. Not me tho, think my body is used to only 5 or 6 hours of sleep. It's not always a bad thing as I enjoy sitting outside in the quiet. Everyone got packed up and we drove to the airport around 12:30ish. We checked them in, said our goodbyes, I got crap for tearing up, watched them until we couldn't see them no more, and then we headed on our way. Boo hoo hoo!!! So glad they came!!! Miss them already!!!

Jayci has been doing pretty awesome at Project Walk. She is a lot less fragile then the first time, so they treat her like that. She has been doing some amazing things with her legs. She has moved her left foot, has strong initiation with movement in her legs and her upper body is getting so much stronger. Her trainers are very impressed with her workouts and you know she is happy to be there. It is all just very exciting!!!!

Holy crap, is that the time. I better get going. I skipped training today so that I could blog. I still have to shower and have lunch ready for when the clan gets home or I will be in big, big trouble. Hope this post goes thru as there seems to be a problem with the site. We aren't receiving any of your posts???? Hope they get that fixed soon. It can get lonely way down here! Love you all!! God Bless!!

Shawn, Star, Cassi & Jace

PS. Found out my brother Brad and his fam are flying in on Wednesday. We are busy making plans for their visit. Rest up people!!! See you soon!!

  3. So first of all who doesn't like shopping?? Ha!Ha! I can't even begin to describe the wonderful time I had in California! We flew in Wed night and I won't get into the wonderful flights we had -Not! Thurs Ash & I get up bright and early to go to PW and check it out ourselves. Wow! There is people of all ages and little kids all from various spinal cord injuries and all in different stages of recovery. And all with big smiles! To see their progress is unbelievable! So Jayci is in her 3rd hour of physio and she is laying on a table. The trainer is raising her right leg and Jayci is to try to resist. I'm taking a picture of her new skids for Hayley and the trainer brings her leg down and tells Jayci to lift her left leg AND her foot moves. Now she does this about 5 more times and every time was when he told her to. No little twitch - it moved up and down with her new skids on and they have to weigh something. Exciting or what!!! I'm so proud of Jayci and her family. Staying with them I see the sacrifices they have all made and how hard they work together as a family. Love you all and thanks for the wonderful holiday!

  4. Well, well, well. According to Sherry, Jayci is now in a footrace. Good for you, girl.
Sounds like everyone had a great time shopping. Right, Shawn???
How long will you be at Project Walk this time?
Yes, Starla, it's hard to believe that Tye didn't want to stay with his mommy. She's such a delight to be with.
Starla, if you do some research, you'll find that some shells do come from trees. I believe it is every third shell. Just count them. 1 shell, 2 shells, treeshells.
Well Jayci, you keep up the good work and keep getting stronger. We think of you lots of times every day.
    Love you all,
    Uncle Jack & Aunt Jacki
