Hello??? Y'all still out there? I can't believe it's been so long since my last post. Time flies I guess. Things here have been going pretty good. Busy, but good.

Jayci has now received her manual chair (is it sweet). Metallic Tangerine. When Pat(Independent Living) delivered it and we put Jayci in for a fitting, we told her to get wheeling. She gets her arms in position and the left one goes real good but the right one has trouble so Jay says "Well, guess I can go in circles". Haha. It will come. She also got her bed frame which is great too. We can raise and lower the bed, which really helps our backs. We can also raise and lower her head and feet and it also has a massager built in. Jace isn't sure what she thinks of that yet. We also received the standing frame which is wonderful. We can now get her in the standing position and she can exercise her legs and arms while doing so. Still waiting for the FES bike. Word today is that it was shipped yesterday.??? We will see.

Seems like school is going pretty good for her. Lets see, the last couple Math tests she had she got 98% and 102%(bonus question). Not too shabby. And no Jayci, I am not bragging. I am just simply sharing information. Psych class is going well except she had a power point assignment due today and she had it on Cassi's laptop, which decided to crash. Darn computers!!! Anyways, they thought they got the assignment onto a USB but when I took Jayci to the office today so she could do what she needed to do with it, Cass and her discovered it wasn't on the USB.???? So Jace had to go to school and explain to her teacher. This reminded Jayci of the time years ago when our dog Gizzy actually ATE Jayci's homework. LOL. She had to go to school and tell her teacher that. Is that not the funniest thing? Hopefully we can get it figured out tonight. I'm sure her teacher won't be too hard on her. The school division and her teachers have all been so great. They are trying really hard to get things in place as to what will make it easiest for Jayci to be the most independent she can, while at school. We met last week and they are currently looking at desks for her to use with the laptop. They have made another handicap parking stall at the school and they are also looking into having more automatic doors put in so she can access the school by herself. Tomorrow they are doing a tech assessment on Jayci, which, by the way, SGI does not want to pay for.??? Apparently they will only pay for one assessment for her, so, we can do it now, or we can do it later. Ridiculous!!! Obviously Jayci's needs are going to change as time goes on. We just don't understand all these 'one time only's' with SGI when their book clearly states that they will provide for Jayci, what she needs, to make her life as close as back to how it was before the accident as possible. And yet everything is a fight. Some day, hopefully, they will see that we are not going to go away. Therapy is going good for Jace too. They have been doing acupuncture and she is also sitting for at least 20 minutes on her own. Oh how far that girl has come!!!

Since the weather WAS so nice, Jayci has been getting out of the house and hanging with friends and family. She has gone to watch Lexie play ball, she went to watch Shelby at the dirt bike track, she even went fishing at the Landing. Cass, Skylar, Shelby, Christina and a few other friends of Cassi's all headed out a couple Sundays ago. Sounds like it was quite an adventure but think they all had fun. She had her first sleepover(besides Hayley) since the accident, with her buddy Ash on Friday. Woo hoo. Another part of normalcy back. I wasn't sure how it would go because of the care Jayci needs but I guess she explained it all to Ash prior, lol, and I think they both had a really good time. It was nice to see. Hayley slept over on Sunday and Cass joined them for some movies.

Report cards came out last week and they were both pretty good. There are less than 20 days of school left, so I sure hope Tye will keep it up. He is a 15 year old with a 15 year old's social life, you know, so he is pretty much always on the go. Hopefully homework is getting done somewhere in there too. Cass passed all her classes and is currently taking another one online. She plans to continue next year in Regina and has been accepted into Res. Oh boy. Don't know how Mama bear is going to like that!!!! But you know, she is almost 19 and really, she doesn't have to live by my rules anymore. Of course, you know what I said, "My roof, my rules"(OH MY, I sound like my father), and since she hasn't started paying me rent, I guess for now, it is 'My roof, my rules'. HA!

Shawn has been busy working(when it's not raining). And as for me, well, I just can't seem to get anything organized. I feel a little overwhelmed about it all so then I cook or plant (yes, I got some flowers). I enjoy doing both of these so they relax me and then I don't feel quite so overwhelmed. My parents (well, probably mainly my dad) gave me a magnet years ago when my kids were little which said 'Cleaning the house while the kids are still growing, is like shoveling the walk while it's still snowing'. I think of that saying lots. LOL. I do get the daily stuff done but I have left the closets for a bit because the weather was so nice and I just had to get out to the yard. Shawn and I got the yard cleaned up, he trimmed some trees and I planted grass seed, AGAIN. Because it has been raining(and some snow) for days now, I have set up shop in Shawn's shop, haha, and have started planting my pots. I really think Shawn likes having me out there with him!!(just as long as I clean up my mess).

So, you see, things are going along just fine. Jayci continues to get stronger every day. She is still full of determination, faith and hope, as we are too. She has the love and support of Cassi and Tye. She has loving family and true friends, who have been by her side from the very beginning and continue to be there for her. And of course, we all continue to 'BELIEVE'!!!

Love Shawn, Starla, Cassi, Jayci, Tye and Giz

  2. It is great to finally get another post, but on the other hand it is nice to see that your lives are getting into a routine and are too busy to post. That must feel wonderful. Jayci, keep up the hard work both academically and physically it will pay off (has already). Enjoy the time with friends and family along the way. Starla, I am sure that no cares that the closets are not cleaned (you should see my closets!). There will be plenty of time for that some day. As for the challenges with SGI, keep plugging and if there is anything anyone can do to help in that regard I am sure there are plenty of volunteers just let us know we can help.

Have a fabulous week! Hope the weather improves.
