Oh My Goodness! OM Irwin School's 10th annual talent show was awesome. Tracy Chalk and Aaron Thingelstad, along with the staff and students of Irwin, organized a great evening full of entertainment. There was singing, dancing, skits of laughter that involved both young and not so young. The staff even performed STOMP, and it was a hit!! They raised a ton of money($6000) that will go a long way to help with Jayci's recovery. It was, to say the least, a little overwhelming. We walked into the packed gym, eyes focused on our seats at the front, you know, don't look around too much, avoid eye contact, avoid tears. Throughout the performances, I was like, I'm not going to cry, I'm not going to cry, Oh crap, anyone got a kleenex??? There were many, many wonderful performances including one song by Aaron Thingelstad, that really pulled at the heart strings. Jace said she had a hard time holding it in. And then.... at the end of the night a couple of young girls, Chantelle and Julia Dawn, who are friends of Tye's, came out to sing a song requested by Tye. They sang The Climb by Mylie Cyrus, which is a favorite of Jayci's. Holy moly, can these girls sing! They even added Jayci's name into the song. It was absolutely beautiful!! So beautiful in fact, that they got a standing ovation. Ya, it made us cry, but I have learned over these last 6 months, there are many kinds of tears, including tears of faith, hope, love, appreciation, excitement, and joy and I think we experienced all of them that night. There were people there we hadn't seen in a while. People that came up to say hello, to give a hug, and just to let us know they are still thinking of us. There were people that don't even know Jayci that came up to her to say hey, we are thinking of you, keep fighting! I can't even really explain how it makes us all feel except to say we truly, truly appreciate everything from such generous, kind and caring people and that we can't wait to come home!!!! Thanks so, so much to everyone. Chantelle and Julia Dawn have since recorded that song on a CD and gave it to Jace. They also have a video posted on Facebook, and if I can get someone to show me how, I will post it on the blog so you all can see it.
So, you will never guess where I am!!! Sitting at my kitchen table, at my house, in Swift Current. Yep, I stayed home this week. Since it is going to be a short week anyways, and since Cass and Hayley were going up to Saskatoon, I decided that I would stay home with my son this week. Tye had somewhat of a rough week last week, and I just needed to be here. I know Jace will be just fine with the girls but Shawn did say he didn't know what he would do without me. That's funny, I have been telling him that for years!!!! They actually didn't leave yesterday until around 4:00 because of the fog and then ended up driving in it anyways. I hate that darn fog. But they got there safely.
Word from there today is that Jayci got an I-Phone. Thanks to the work of Sarah and Karin, Rogers donated that and a Blue Tooth to her so now she is able to text by voice control. That will be so great for her (and me, haha). Thank you Rogers! She also practiced more rolling again and Jan(PT) said she can feel Jayci moving her hip. Praise God!! Tomorrow is pool day so the girls are looking forward to watching Jace swim. Then they will be home Friday afternoon. See, short week!!!
Tye went skiing today with his youth group. He texted me and said he thinks he is pre pro skier!?!?! Olympics 2014???? He just got home and sounds like he had an awesome time. Not sure what we are up to tonight. Don't think he has eaten supper so I best go feed him. Take care and God Bless!!
Love Star & Tye

Just viewed the song and ah,oh,my, ah shucks, Starla, give me one of your kleenexs
ReplyDeleteWhat a great song and very well done....
ReplyDeleteSo true....it doesn't matter how fast you get there................we know you will get there and the climb will be well worth it when you see what's on the other side and what will be in store for you...
Hope you've been listening to Rick Hansen through out the Olympics....he had a long climb to the other side and is now making a difference in many peoples lives as an inspirational speaker....another hero is Terry Fox who although he never made the complete climb, has been so inspiring to so many and we can thank Terry for the major funding to cancer research through the annual runs in his name each year....
Enjoy your time at home Star....
When is the release day set for now???(God,sounds like you're in prison....actually guess maybe that's what it feels like huh?)
Love you all....
Keep on keepin on little one,the mountain awaits!
Wow, that was soooo touching. I'd never heard the song before. How fitting. Those girls did an incredible job! Bravo!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's really incredible how many people are actually praying for you Jayci - so many more than you know! You've obviously touched a lot of people and inspired them all :)
Congrats on the new I-phone (I'm jealous) - but you deserve it more than I do :)
And Starla, I'm glad you get to spend a little extra time at home....and I'm sure Tye appreciates the little extra time he gets to spend with you. But what will Shawn do? Ah, I guess he can survive a couple of days without you :)
take care everyone,
big hugs
shae
Soooo the Boss is away and well ... Anyways, Hayley called last night and I can't even explain her excitement from watching Jayci in physio. Can hardly wait to hear how swimming went. I just officially got my first text from Jayci's new I-phone - Yah Rogers!!
ReplyDeleteOk, so just listened to Julia Dawn and Chantelle on Facebook singing "The Climb". How can anyone get through that one without kleenex??? Jayci, we would and will, do anything we can to help you and your family with your climb. We love you all! Keep it up! There will be some days when the climb is tougher. Just remember you have so many that are willing to step up and help. Love you, see you soon! Still in our prayers.
ReplyDeletePS Ash was pretty excited with your texts!!! Good work, kiddo!
Sending your mom an email- inspiration of the day.
Luv ya,
Talk to you soon.
Renee :)
I guess everyone has taken time off to watch the Olympics.
ReplyDeleteI guess that's allowed. That's what I'm doing. Canada is doing alright.
How about you, Jayci? Hope your doing fine. Fighting like an Olympian from what I hear. Good for you. Keep doing it . Go for gold. We're behind you.(if we were in front you would likely run over us) hahaha
Keep on keepin on.
Love ya lots,
