Hey there. Again, sorry for the delay between postings. Sounds like Shawn and the girls made out just fine without me last week. Not sure if that is good news or not??? I enjoyed my time at home with Tye even though he is quite the busy body but think he too enjoyed having me there. Don't ask him though as he will for sure deny it. Grandpa Taffy caught the bus up to Saskatoon on Thursday. Uncle Ed picked him up from the bus and brought him to the hospital, where, believe it or not, he even went up and said hello to Jayci. Then Grandpa and Cassi brought Shawn's truck back to Swift. Cassi had friends home over the break so she came back a day early to spend time with them. Jayci has been busy with her I-phone. Text, text, text. She doesn't even have to use the voice control as she can work the phone with her left hand. She does really good with it and it is so great to see her with some more independence. I'm sure her friends like it too as now they know that I will not be reading the texts they send. I'm kind of feeling a little bit out of the loop though! Haha.
So a funny thing happened to us on Sunday night. All last week our power at home had been going off. Just when I got all the clocks reset, it would go off again. I don't know, something to do with the wet weather. Anyways, on Sunday night after the girls had gone to bed to watch a movie, Shawn and I jumped in the hot tub. We were just about to get out when the power went out. Shawn said "We better get in there, the girls will be freaking". Just as he opened our bedroom door to go in, we hear Cassi say "The power's out and Jayci is sinking". Oh crap, we forgot about her bed (Jayci sleeps on an air mattress which helps with pressure points, and of course it needs power to run). We go flying in there, can't see a thing, and we are soaking wet. The power came back on shortly after and there is Jayci, laying in her flattened bed, big blue eyes peering out. Too funny!! At least we learned that she would just sink in the bed as it flattened and not get folded into it.
We arrived back here Monday at noon. Jayci had pool and Uncle Brad and Auntie Andrea were here to watch. Jayci moved her right leg again, which Auntie seen, and they also felt her hip flexer move as well. Great stuff!! Let's see. What else have we been doing. Oh ya, I almost forgot.....WE ARE COMING HOME!!!! We are being discharged tomorrow. Can you believe it. It will be 199 days tomorrow since we have been in hospital and we are busting out. We have been getting things organized so that we are set up at home with supplies and such and tonight we packed up the room. We have therapy in the morning and pool in the afternoon and then we will be on our way home. Oh, I hope I can sleep tonight. Tomorrow will be a day of mixed emotions, I am sure. The staff here has been so great to our Jayci so it will be a little sad to go but this is what we have been waiting for. And, we will still have to come back up here for some equipment, follow ups and what not, so we will see them again. Jayci is looking forward to getting back home, back to school, and back with her friends. It will be good to have the family back together!!!!
Our plan right now is to head down to California and Project Walk in April. We are trying to plan it so Cass and Tye can drive down with us, stay awhile, and not miss too much school. It is exciting to think about and I think it will be really good for us all to get away together. Jayci is looking forward to it and is anxious to experience what Project Walk has to offer.
So, we are on to the next climb. This will not be the last post, as Jayci's journey is far from over. There is much more to happen and I will continue to post our progress and update you all. Please, please, continue to pray. God Bless!!
Love Shawn, Star & Jace

ReplyDeleteReceived more info from Nancy(Ward). They took time out of their holiday schedule to check things out in Carlsbad. Thanks Nancy & Mike.Sounds like a nice city and easy to get around in.Nancy is sending info up by ups so that it will get here quicker than they will as they are still on holidays, I think their holidays are from just after harvest to just before seeding. Anyways it was very good of them to do this.
ReplyDeleteJayci! That is so awesome, look at you go :)
ReplyDeleteStarla, you and your family are truely inspirational! You are forever in our hearts and I know I speak for so many when I say I believe Jayci will walk again. The way you guys have pulled together through hard times still with smiles on your faces and so much faith in your hearts leaves me in 'awe' of strong and loving your family is. You guys lead by example in more ways than one and I have never met a family more deserving of a miracle.
Oh my goodness!!! That is soooo exciting! Way to go, there is so much to be so happy and grateful for. Jayci way to go. It is so great that all of you pulled together as a family, this will only bring better things to come. Keep on staying strong!
