K, so you know how I told you a couple days ago (my last post, sorry but I was too pooped last night to think), anyways, I told you how Jayci tried out a manual chair. Well, who knew she would be trying wheelies already?!?!? Yesterday Karin rounded up a smaller chair for Jayci to try. It belongs to a man named Paul who was also injured in a car accident when he was 17. Anyways, it was custom made for him and it has no anti-tip bars on it (these, obviously prevent the chair from tipping backwards). Karin thought it was too tippy for Jayci but of course Shawn's like "Oh, she'll be fine". So we get Jayci in the chair and Karin decides she is going to walk right behind her, you know, just in case. Jayci starts with her left arm. Good. Then she uses her right arm. OK, but not quite quick enough for her so she starts to use both arms. All of a sudden, WHOA, Jayci tips backwards, Karin is there to grab the chair but the chair keeps going and Karin is just about running to keep up with the chair and keep the chair up. She got it under control and man, did we laugh. I just keep seeing the look on Jayci and Karin's faces and I start to laugh but I am sure we all had the same look of PANIC!!! At one point during the laughter, Karin says "Are you alright?" and I said "Ya, I'll be fine" but then I realized she was talking to Jayci. Haha.
We've had a busy week here. Tuesday night Renae and Lil Devyn brought us supper. Thank you! It was nice not to have to cook (JKJK). Devyn is such a cutie and a little goofy too. Think she takes after her Grandma Brenda!! Cousins Bill and Edie came up yesterday for a visit and they brought us home made beef barley soup. It was delicious. Shawn says it was the best barley soup he has ever had! It was nice to visit with them and Bill is always good for some laughs. This afternoon we went with Karin and Sara over to Paul's house (the same Paul that loaned us the tippy wheel chair). He had a house built and so Karin wanted us to see it to give us some ideas of how things could be set up to accommodate a wheel chair. He actually lives right around the corner from our friends Randy and Barb and when we were leaving, we seen Barb pull into her driveway. We stopped to talk to her and I think she was quite surprised to see us. She also invited us for supper one day next week so we are looking forward to that.
Therapy has been going good. She was back in the pool today. She starts at 9:30 tomorrow and is finished at noon, so we will load up and head home shortly after that. Shawn went and picked up the mini van that Golden Mobility (think I called it Global before, oops) is letting us use on weekends. We used it this afternoon on our little venture and it sure is better for everyone.
So that is it in a nut shell. Hope everyone has a great weekend! God Bless.
Love Shawn, Star & Jace
