It is a cold, rainy day here so we did not venture outside. Jace did get up in her chair this morning and we went for physical therapy. They transfered her to a big table and did some more assessing. We were only there about half an hour and they sat her back up and put her back in the chair and she decides she's not feeling well and thinks she is going to throw up. One therapist is running for a basin and mom and the other therapist stay on each side of the chair. Jace is all hot but they can't tip her back cause she thinks she is going to throw up. Next thing you know, lights out for Jayci. One therapist grabs her legs and holds them up, Jace comes to and we are on the move to get her back to her room and back to bed. So there we go, down the halls as fast as possible, mom on one side pushing the chair and holding basin, therapist on the other side pushing the chair and one therapist at the legs, holding them up as we go. I tell you, if we hadn't been so freaked out, it may have been funny. Well it kind of is now but holy moly. We were pretty glad it happened there and not while she was outside somewhere with mom and dad. It probably happened due to her sitting up too fast and then her blood pressure dropped but that hasn't happened like that before. Jace did manage to get back in the chair this afternoon to go for occupational therapy for more assessing, and she stayed with us the entire half hour. Oh and if you are wondering where dad was through all of this, well.....when we were getting Jace in the lift to transfer to the wheelchair, dad backed into a table, spilt his cup of coffee everywhere and had it all over the butt of his pants(man, did Jayci have a good laugh). So anyways, dad had to go back to Ronald McDonald to change his pants and missed all the excitement. What a morning.
We are already receiving pictures through e-mail of the Jayci Wittmier Benefit taking place as we speak. Pretty cool, to say the least. Hope everyone has a great time. Can't wait to hear all about it later. Take care all!

The lightheadedness will pass in time & sitting up fast will be no problem. Now I fint it only happens when my legs sink in the lake and I return to that occassional standing poisition.

I just wanted to let you know i was at the benefit last night and wow what a turn out, the amount of people who showed up to show their support was touching!! A person could really feel the love in there, it was truly something!! We wish you all the best and it sounds like your support team (stinky and all) are the best you could ask for!!! You a very lucky to have them, good luck in your recovery ,keep being strong!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like that was ... exciting? So well keep on pushing. You will get there, it just takes time. Don't rush your body into that position, take your time but keep pushing. Breathe...you can do it. It may take a few tries but i know you will get there. Plus that motorized wheel chair sounds pretty fun eh? Well i hope your stomach feels better. Mine felt pretty crappy last night as well.
ReplyDeleteRelax, breathe, and keep on going. I believe in you Jay!

Good morning Jayci,Shawn aka "Stinky" and Starla:
ReplyDeleteSorry Shawn, but your nickname will probably stick for awhile. Mark, Leah and I were happy to be able to attend the benefit for you last night and had a wonderful time catching up with many of our old 'hockey family'. We sure miss the socializing at hockey games. Anyway, the event was a lot of fun, the food was delicious and we were awestruck at how much money was raised on your behalf. Your letters to everyone were extremely touching and more than a few people were dabbing their eyes, me (Gloria) included. We think of you pretty much everyday and send out our prayers and best wishes for your continued recovery and for all of you to "Keep on Keeping On" and stay strong. It's true that laughter is the best medicine and it's good to know that in all of this you can all keep a wonderful sense of humour. Good luck with your rehab.
Take care all of you.
With Love and best wishes from the Teulon's
Hey guys, what a place to be last night. I was overwhelmed by the generosity of a community like ours. we know the $ raised is going to help you out lots. Great letters you sent were read by John Kennedy ( a few tears were shed along the way). Keep the faith.

ReplyDeleteHi Jayci ! My mom told me about what happened to you . I am praying for you and your family . I am in a wheelchair to. I have cerebral palsy . I think its fun when my brother pushes me and does wheelies . I can chase girls faster than any other boy in my class at recess.I am in gr 4 at Ashley Park . Maybe i will come and say hi to you the next time i come to doctors there. We can have a race but you would win . My mom says it could be dangerous to get me a motorized wheelchair. I'm only 9 . I think she probably won't let me get one because she would have run faster to catch me . She's a little bit old . Keep smiling :) I think you are pretty brave girl . Liam Bissonnette
